A Carolina Weekend

Last weekend I hit the road for Columbia, SC to see one of my best friends and watch the Gamecocks play. And it was awesome! I miss living so close to Columbia and being able to see my friends whenever I want. I've definitely been homesick lately. I got to Columbia after supper time and we all decided to visit Rockaway's for burgers and some delicious pimento cheese fries. If you're in the area, these are not to be missed!

Saturday we did the requisite tailgate shopping with a quick stop by Target so I could get some jeans. I hope it's not a sign that I'm getting used to the Florida weather, but I packed nothing but shorts and skirts for the weekend and it was a little chilly in SC, which was fabulous. It felt like football weather all weekend long! I enjoyed a fabulous little tailgate with Twyla, Amanda, her husband Lenny, and my new friend Lt. Jill.

I had a great time at the game, even though there were some ridiculously over enthusiastic fans in front of us. I'm all for cheering, but I don't think it's necessary to stand up the entire game, holler until you can barely talk, and wave your spirit rag so hard that you could take someone's eye out. That's just me, but then again I didn't drink a 5th of Kentucky Gentleman and start chugging straight Canadian mist by the 4th quarter like the fellows in front of us. Thankfully, the weather was cool with no rain and the Gamecocks pulled out a win!

My favorite part of the game is always when Cocky comes out of the box to 2001.

The next morning we had brunch at the Liberty Tap Room (pretty tasty!) and got on the road for Florida. This was the most 'normal' weekend I've had in a while, hanging out with friends and not worrying about jobs or mother in laws. I must start having more fun in my life, soon! Thankfully there is plenty going on this fall, so I'll just have to make the best of it!

Georgia Southern is Back!

I'm so proud of my alma mater Georgia Southern. This weekend the Eagles took down our rivals, #1 ranked Appalachian State. My only regret was that I wasn't in Paulson Stadium to see it. Check out the last play...it give me goosebumps!

Weekend Roundup

So, it turns out that fall has been much busier than summer! It's great since this summer kind of sucked and I'm really looking forward to changing leaves and cooler temps. This past weekend we were totally lazy on Friday night, staying in and watching Couples Retreat for the 14th time on HBO. Saturday I had to work a bit, although I can't complain much, my day consisted of working at the Hispanic Festival...

...and then at the Greek Festival! Mmmm...lamb on the spit!

And Feta Fries!!!

I came home and caught up on a little football, thankfully, South Carolina beat Bama although my Georgia Southern Eagles lost to Wofford. We decided to take a last minute camping trip at the lake, so we packed up the truck and hit the road. It was really nice to get out of town for the nice and sleep with the crickets. Hopefully the weather will get just a little bit cooler and we'll be able to enjoy some more camping trips this year! Check out the view right as the sun was going down...

Next weekend, my grandad is getting married, so it should be just as busy and fun!

Halloween Weekend WrapUp

Halloween Weekend 2009 was pretty fun. It is really starting to feel like fall! Friday when I came home from work we got started working on our pumpkin. Once he was all carved we decided to name him Fred. Everyone meet Fred! (He is supposed to look surprised.)Here he is getting used to his new spot on the front porch.
This was our first Halloween in the neighborhood, so we weren't really sure if we were going to have many trick or treaters. I didn't know if it was the kind of neighborhood where people only trick or treated at houses they knew or if it was a free for all.
We spent Saturday morning cleaning house. Ran a few errands and came back home in time to watch Florida beat Georgia! (Thank goodness, since South Carolina decided not to show up to the Tennessee game.) We went out to a Pre-Grand Opening Party at Cheddar's (a new restaurant in town), and it was pretty good. Of course the service was great because it is new, but I wasn't anticipating the ridiculously huge portions. Seriously, our dessert was a slice of chocolate cake the size of my head! We left a little bit of candy out on the porch. It was all gone when we came back, so I only had a few pieces left to hand out to the last trick or treaters.
Then it was time for Spooky Movie Fest '09! We watched the new Halloween (really scary!) and the Amityville Horror (Hello, Ryan Reynolds!). Even Fred was scared!

Photography and More!

I'm excited that I've got my first photo shoot since fall started lined up for this afternoon! I'll be wandering around downtown Augusta taking pics for my friend Stacey and her fiance, Ryan. We're working on their Save the Date photos and Christmas pics and I'm really excited. Stacey and I had some cute ideas as to how to incorporate their date in the photos and I think the end result will turn out really cute. I'll post a few pics after we're all done.

This weekend was pretty good, too! I went to Columbia Friday night to visit the fabulous Miss Twyla and deliver some furniture to her new townhouse. It's turning out to be really cute and I hope that maybe on my next visit I'll be able to take some photos. (I am however, still jealous of her brand new fridge, which is like the Cadillac of fridges. The only thing better would be a stainless steel Sub-Z.)

Saturday we went down to the 'Boro to see Andy. It was a little too cold and wet for the football game but we did a little bit of shopping at Hobby Lobby (I can't wait till we get one here!) and tried the new BBQ joint in town. I was finally able to get the supplies to start working on some of my Christmas crafts, which I'm excited about. I'm also looking forward to baking some delicious treats with the homemade vanilla extract that Andy made for us. It smells so good! If either of those projects turn out cute, I'll post them on the blog. We also made a pit stop at a few of our favorite watering holes. It's nice to see that some things never change down there.

The Blind Side

Has any one else seen the trailer for this movie? I read about it filming in Atlanta this summer and totally forgot about it again. A friend of mine reminded me about it this past week and I absolutely can't wait to see it. The Blind Side is based on a true story, which is even more cool. I love a good sports movie, especially a good football movie. (Remember the Titans and Rudy get me every time!)
(Don't tell anyone, but the preview looks so good that I got a little misty! Lord knows what will happen when I see the entire thing...)

I'm back!

I'm back! Things were a little slow towards the end of the summer without much to blog about, but thankfully fall is here. My favorite things about fall are College Football, cooler weather, camping, festivals & fairs, and all the great holidays.College football season might possibly be my favorite time of year. It used to be summer, but since I don't get a summer break anymore, that might have to change. Every Saturday I like to wake up and watch Gameday while I make breakfast. Of course, my favorite part is the end with the mascot heads. Lee Corso almost never picks my teams, but that's ok, I won't hold it against him! In our house we watch Georgia Southern (when they're on tv!), South Carolina, Florida and any SEC game. Being at the games in person and tailgating makes it even better!
Cooler weather makes it much more bearable to be outside. We love to go camping and I especially love fairs and festivals, where there is a good chance that you'll find some delicious fried food like funnel cakes or fried oreos...delish!
We also get to celebrate one of my favorite holidays during the fall-Fakesgiving! It's a tradition that started about 5 or 6 years ago at my best friend's house, when we all decided to have Thanksgiving dinner together before we went home to our families. It's the kind of event where you enjoy the food and drinks of Thanksgiving without any of the stress. It really is a ton of fun! I'm hoping to cook even more this year and include some of my new favorite recipes.
Let's hope that this fall is fabulous!
